Parent & Family Engagment

Taft Elementary Family Engagement Plan 2025-2026
At Taft we believe that parents and caregivers are key to student success, and must be included in school life at all levels.
● All parents have dreams for their children and want the best for them
● All parents have the capacity to support their children’s learning
● The responsibility for building partnerships between school and home rests primarily with school staff, especially school leaders. Together, we work towards a collaborative and supportive educational environment where the shared goal is to empower our students to reach their full potential.
What?
Throughout the school year, each classroom will organize one or two family engagement events. These events should have a strong connection to the classroom curriculum, serving to reinforce and expand upon what students are learning both in the classroom and at home with their families.
Why?
As a Title 1 building, we receive funding to enhance family engagement within our school community. Our district's primary focus is on reducing chronic absenteeism, and research indicates that events closely aligned with classroom instruction are the most impactful in terms of engaging families and fostering improved student attendance.
When & Where?
Events will be held before school, after school, or even during school - whatever seems most appropriate for the connection to the classroom. The event may take place in your classroom, the gym, cafeteria, outside in the field, etc.
How can you get involved?
If you're interested in being a part of our schoolwide or classroom events, you might consider becoming a part of our TAFT FAMILY COLLECTIVE or adding your name to our volunteer list.
We are excited to share that Taft Elementary receives federal funding aimed at enhancing student learning and success. To make the most of this valuable resource, we want to hear your ideas on how we can best utilize these funds to support our students.
Here are a few examples of how this funding could be used:
- Providing educational materials for students to use at home
- Offering food at school events
- Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for our families
- Supplying take-home books for students
- Organizing classroom and school-wide events that enrich the learning experience
We value your input and want to ensure these funds are used in ways that directly benefit our students and their educational journey. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please email our Family Engagement Coordinator at demi.miller@boiseschools.org.
