A note from our Principal

September 1, 2026

Dear Families,

What a joy to have your children fill our hallways, classrooms, and playgrounds again last month! It has been wonderful to have our tigers back in action, and we love welcoming our new faces to the Taft family.

This month please plan to attend our Back to School Family Photo Fun Night from 4:30-7:00 pm. Our teachers will have open houses in their classrooms from 4:30-5:30. After you visit the classroom you will get a ticket to get your family photo taken with a professional photographer at our outdoor photo studio, a chance to have pizza and play games, and connect with other Taft families. See you there!

Thanks for your support and many contributions to make Taft a place where every learner grows every day.

Supper Club is Back!

We are pleased to offer students an additional hot meal after school from 3:15-3:30 in the cafeteria. Students need to be picked up or walk home promptly at 3:30, we do not have additional supervision after that time. Unfortunately we are not able to offer supper club to bus riders due to transporation schedules. If you have a K-2 students who walks home or is picked up please communicate with their teacher if you would like them to attend supper club.

Standards Based Reporting: Centering Student Learning

Our district is currently shifting to a standards based reporting (SBR) model to help better share student learning with familes. At Taft, this looks like putting students in the driver's seat of their own learning. Over the next few months you may have the opportunity to have new conversations with your child about what they are learning, and what they need to learn next to meet their goals. At the end of the first quarter you will see a new report card, and your teachers will report back on student progress toward grade level learning intentions using standardized scales. Please come to our Back to School Night, and check out this district video to learn more!

Join the Taft Family Collective!

Taft has a unique parent group called the Taft Family Collective who focuses on family engagement and supporting the school and teachers in a variety of ways. Everyone is welcome to join! We would love to see you at our next meeting on Septemeber15th at 3:30 here at Taft.

Taft Kid City Registration, we still have a few more spots!

We partner with Boise Parks and Recreation to offer accessible and fun after school care for 1st - 6th graders at Kid City after school from 3:15-6:00pm. Registration is required, if you need assistance please let us know.

Literacy Tutoring at BSU

Are you looking for affordable literacy tutoring outside of school? Consider this opportunity through Boise State University. Limited scholarships are available.
 

TItle 1-A Notification

Our teachers at Taft are highly qualified, and your children benefit from highly skilled instruction throughout the school day.

Federal law requires that each Title I-A school notify families/parents of each student attending any school receiving these funds that information regarding the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teacher(s) may be requested. As a parent or guardian of a student attending a school receiving Title I-A funds, you have the
right to know:
● Is my child’s teacher licensed to teach the grade(s) and subject(s) assigned?
● What is the college major of my child’s teacher(s)?
● What degree or degrees does my child’s teacher(s) hold?
● To request the state qualifications for any of your child’s teacher(s) and/or
paraprofessional(s), please contact the school office.
● If you would like more information about the school’s Title I-A program, feel free to
contact us.

Interested in English Language Classes?

Here is an opportunity for in free person English language classes here in Boise.
 

Moment of Silence (Required by State Law)

In accordance with Idaho Code 33-1639, all schools are required to provide a brief moment of silence of at least sixty (60) seconds at or near the beginning of each school day. During this time, students must remain silent and may use the moment for individual reflection, meditation, prayer, or another silent activity of their choice, provided it does not interfere with others. In accordance with the law, parents are encouraged to provide guidance to their children on how they may use this time each day.

The Boise School District complies with federal law (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) as it relates to the release of student directory information to the public.
